How to Travel with a Family on Tight Budget

Traveling with your family should be fun, not a stressful time due to the cost of it. You can travel even if you have a tight budget. Here are some options to help you obtain cheap travel.

Off Peak Season
The time of year when you travel can influence prices. Try to travel during the off peak season. This will help you to get the lowest possible prices. Try to travel during the week too rather than over the weekends. You will often be able to get flights and hotels for a fraction of the cost.

Take advantage of promotions that are offered. For example, you may be able to use a promo code online to save 20% on your hotel. You may be able to get a free night with 3 paid nights at some hotels. When you know where you are going to travel, put some alerts out there on the internet. This can help you to get email notifications when there are special promotions you don’t want to miss out on.

You may be able to enjoy family travel for less with rewards programs. Your credit cards may have such promotions with them. You can use your credit card to pay for large bills so that you get more rewards in less time. Just make sure you pay that bill in full each month so that you aren’t accruing additional interest and fees that add up.

Kid Friendly Pricing
You can benefit from cheap travel if you look for kid friendly pricing. For example, many places offer one free child admission with one adult admission. Many restaurants offer free kids meals certain nights per week. Knowing about these offers can help you to plan your trip accordingly so that you can benefit from them.

Don’t be shy when it comes to using coupons. They can help you to save on car rentals, hotels, and even admission tickets. Look for tickets and coupons online too that other people aren’t using. They may be selling them for a very low price. If you can get an admission ticket for less than gate price, do so.

Drive Versus Fly
If you can’t find cheap airfare for family travel, consider renting a van and driving. Plan some great activities for the kids to enjoy so they don’t get bored. Calculate the cost of the rental, fuel, and any additional items you will need to pay for along the way.

One Way Flights
If you are determined to fly, look at one way flight costs compared to round trip. What you may find is that it is cheap to fly out to your destination but high to get back with a given airline. By the one way that gets you out there for less. Then buy another one way from another airline to slash overall prices. Make sure you include baggage fees when you are comparing prices on flights.

Food and Drinks
Eating out is one of the highest expenses for most family travel. There are plenty of ways you can reduce the cost. Pack a cooler to take with cold drinks so that you aren’t buying them for each person when you go to a convenient store for a pit stop. Pack lunch meat and snacks so you can easily prepare lunch at a rest area along the way.

If you will be flying, take along some snacks in your bag for everyone. That will be far less expensive than buying items at the airport. Try to find a hotel that offers free breakfast in the morning as that is one less meal per day to purchase. You can also find a hotel with a kitchenette so you can prepare some of the meals rather than dining out.
