What if there was a day of the week where the stars and the planets aligned to rain down deals? Well there is such a day and it is called Wednesday.
Hump day isn’t just a work hurdle, it’s also a weekly shopping holiday where purchases from groceries to gas are on average, cheaper than the rest of the week.
According Yahoo Finance, Wednesday morning is the time to buy gas:
Picking the right day to buy can result in significant savings, said Jason Toews, co-founder of GasBuddy.com, another site which helps consumers compare local gas prices. “Wednesdays are the best day of the week for cheap gas prices,” he told Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. “Stations tend to raise prices on the weekends and especially during the summer.” So avoid filling up on peak travel days and stick with the middle of the week if you can.
The WSJ reports that Wednesday and Tuesday are the best time to find deals for airfare:
When’s the best time to buy? Travel experts have long said Tuesday is when sales are most often in place, which is true. An analysis of domestic fares shows that Wednesday also has good—and occasionally better—ticket prices.
Though prices fluctuate frequently and the ups and downs of airline prices can frustrate and anger consumers, airline pricing actually does follow a cycle during the week. Many sales, in which some seats are discounted by 15% to 25% typically, are launched Monday night. That was true again this week when AirTran Airways launched a sale to all its destinations. Competitors typically match the lower prices Tuesday morning. By Thursday or Friday, many sales have already expired.
Hifehacker.com has made the argument that Wednesday is the best to time get your groceries:
In terms of what day to go shopping, try Wednesday, since many grocery stores release their new sale advertisements that day but also honor the sales items from the previous week—at least in Sunflower supermarkets, according to Denver’s 5280 magazine. The San Francisco Chronicle also recommends going grocery shopping on Wednesday night, so this may hold true for markets in your area as well.
Besides saving on groceries, another reason to shop on Wed.: fresh produce and fish are likely to be re-stocked mid-week.
Online Clothing Deals
Yahoo’s Financially Fit notes that the best online clothing deals tend to be on Wednesday:
Web deals on women’s clothes are all the rage on Wednesday. Researchers at Shop It To Me, a free online personal shopper, did a study to prove it. According to their data of more than 340,000 women’s items marked down between June 1, 2010 and June 1, 2011, the average discount on women’s and kids’ clothing is about 40 percent on Wednesdays — the steepest all week.
